Want to Learn More about Perth College of Beauty Therapy?

Are you courses recognised outside Australia?

Perth College of Beauty Therapy is a Registered Training Organisation, training to national standards and guidelines. We are accredited by the international examining body ITEC for our Diploma of Screen and Media- ITEC Diploma in Fashion, Theatre and Media Make Up . The prestigious international ITEC qualification is delivered by registered colleges in over 38 countries worldwide. ITEC examiners attend the college at the end of a students course to conduct practical and theory examinations.

Can I start on any course or do I have to work my way up?

As long as you complete all the required modules to make up your certificate, you can start anywhere. The only prerequisite for Specialised (Advanced) Facials (included in the Certificate IV) is students must have completed the Facial module first. Our certificate courses can be upgraded at any stage by adding additional modules.

Do you help students find employment?

Yes, the majority of our students have no problem gaining employment. We have a work experience and job placement officer at the college to inform our students of the latest jobs and work experience placements. We place notices in the student common area and on our Facebook group page.

Do you recognise prior learning?

Yes, Perth College of Beauty Therapy recognises AQF qualifications and/or Statement of Attainment issued by any other recognised training organisation. These must be sighted by the college for evidence.

How do the students gain experience before entering the workforce?

The general public are able to book treatments with our students here at the college just like they would in a Salon. Our Training Salon is open Monday to Friday 10am-3.30pm. Students will perform a number of services during their course giving them valuable hands on experience. Students can find their own work experience placement, and often gain employment once completing their course. Read here for more information about our Training Salon.

I have a full time job/family, can I still get a qualification?

Yes, we have a number of part time courses that can be completed one day per week, two evenings a week or on Saturdays. These courses are completed module by module using a flexible timetable system.

I only have limited time, what short courses do you offer?

We offer short courses in Eyelash Extensions (5 Weeks) and Cosmetic Tanning (2 Weeks), these are both nationally recognised training and are a great way to start a small business. Students can also enrol into separate units which are part of a Certificate III in Beauty Services or a Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy. I want to work form home or set up a mobile beauty business, is there a course for me?

Yes, we have just the perfect course for this. The Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy and the Certificate III in Beauty Services are ideal for mobile or home businesses. Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy includes all the most popular beauty treatments including massage. On completion of a module you are qualified in that area and can be working from home instantly. Other great treatments to offer at home are Spray Tanning and Eyelash Extensions. Both these courses include your professional kits to start your business.

What are your entry requirements?

Students are selected for enrolment on the basis of the following PCBT eligibility criteria:

Diploma qualifications:
• Minimum 17 years of age,
And
• All learners are required to provide a copy of a senior secondary certificate of education which has been awarded to the learner by an agency or authority for the student’s completion of year 12
Or
• The learner is assessed as displaying competence at or above exit level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) in both reading and numeracy;
And
• The VET provider (PCBT) reasonably believes that the learner displays that competence.

Certificate IV & III qualifications:
• Minimum 16 years of age,
And
• All learners are required to provide a copy of a senior secondary certificate of education which has been awarded to the learner by an agency or authority for the student’s completion of year 12
Or
• The learner is assessed as displaying competence at or above exit level 2 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) in both reading and numeracy;
And
• The VET provider (PCBT) reasonably believes that the learner displays that competence.

What is the highest qualification in beauty?

The highest qualification is the one year, full time Diploma in Beauty Therapy (SHB50115). This course is made up of 4 units of study mode including beauty specialist services and makeup, and spa and body specialist services. It gives students a wide variety of employment opportunities.

We are very proud of our good reputation. In part this is due to the high standards we set for ourselves and our students. Presentation and grooming is an essential part of our training. Hair, makeup and uniform must be immaculate at all times and only minimal jewellery can be worn. We have a no smoking policy within the college or surrounding outdoor areas. This image is reflected in the industry giving our students a great reputation.

What products will I be training with?

At Perth college of Beauty Therapy we use only products that are leaders in the beauty and spa industry. We train our students with the professional brands Dermalogica, AHAVA and Environ. Our makeup students use Youngblood, Gorgeous Cosmetics, Masquerade, Mehron and Krylon and a range of other products. We pride ourselves on providing extensive knowledge to our students, which is why we invite other product companies to demonstrate their ranges to our students
